Summary of research into the effects of 2 sided (pros and cons)versus 1 sided views in encouraging people to take action, on a web site for example. Product descriptions and reviews would be a good case. Very dry, but worth reading. For example 2 sided more likely to encourage a deeper and longer lasting commitment to the conclusion.

Recording of a webinar which argues the case that clarity of proposition (Where am I? What does this site offer / do for me? Why should I participate?) takes priority over the persuasiveness of the content. Or, rather, is the FIRST step in the persuasion. Case studies refer to subscription sites, but the principles apply more generally, including other ecommerce.

This is an interesting twist on the kind of personality-based approach to e-commerce, long advocated by people like the Eisenbergs. In this case building an analytics tool which tries to automatically segment visitors into different kind of buying profiles. When you have that information you can then consider how the language of the site and outbound messages bringing people to the site works or doesn't work for each segment.
